The Elk Mountain website has a full list of area restaurants. The restaurant in the lodge is great and there are many choices in nearby towns. Once it is full, you have to park down low and take the tram to the lodge.

Once beginners are ready to go to the top of the mountain, there are some really nice green runs to take down. It has a lift, so you don’t have to fool around with tow ropes or J bars. It’s not very commercial and it’s definitely not a place where you feel rushed. I suppose it would be nice if Elk Mountain got a six person detachable chairlift, but really, it isn’t that type of place. The benefit of having only one lodge is that everyone always knows where to meet, for day or night skiing. But it has a really nice restaurant and you can feed a family reasonably. Still, I think that probably 75% of the people on the hill are skiing. Especially on evenings and weekends, these are popular with snowboarders. This makes the trip up the mountain slower, but I like it because it slows things down and gives us time to look around and enjoy all the beauty. They have one quad chair, but all the other chairs are doubles. I also enjoy the slower pace at Elk Mountain. Snowtubing is really popular also, although we haven’t done it. Sometimes we ski in the morning, have a late lunch and call it a day because you can get a lot of skiing in four hours.Įlk Mountain also has a good ski school, that seems to cater to younger skiers. There are tons of trees, beautiful pines and beautifully cut slopes. You have to plan to go there, but is is worth it. Elk Mountain is truly in the middle of nowhere and a hidden gem.
